Brett Favre, Pro Bowl, Really?

Ladies and gentleman, your 2009 Pro Bowl backup quarterback, Brett Favre!

For your appreciation:

18/31, 187 yards, 0 touchdowns, 2 INTs

sacked 4 times

Completely unable to move the ball on one of the worst teams in the entire league.

Impressive.

Now, not to be a homer, nor to suggest that Matt Cassel SHOULD have been in the Pro Bowl, here are his comparable stats from this week.

20/36, 345 yards, 3 touchdowns, 0 INTs

1 Sack

Some wobbly throws

Scored on 9 of the first 11 possessions.

I could also pick the stats from last week which would show the same story. Again, I’m not so much advocating Cassel, I’d be fine if he made it but I’m not distraught he didn’t, as I am pointing out how embarrassing it is that Favre was selected to the team. Oh yeah, did I mention that Brett Favre has the most interceptions in football this year? Yeah. He does. 19 of them, to his 21 TD passes. That’s a GREAT ratio. So glad the Pro Bowl gets to have him. What a fucking waste. I hope Favre backs out of the game, it’s bad enough he was selected, there’s no way he should be going though.

I’m not quite ready to apply the “great” tag to Cassel, but he’s been certainly much better than I ever imagined. He’s also better than a hell of a lot of the other qbs in the league, but if I have to choose between one handsome chiseled man over another, I’m going with my man Tom.

If the jets miss the playoffs, Farve will def. back out(hopefully). The NFL is no country for old men.

The pro bowl is endlessly stupid. either have an all-star game mid-season like normal professional sports, or wait until every regualar-season game is finished to pick the winners. Right now its basically: who has had some good games this month? pro bowl. Ooh, that team has a good record! pro bowl. and then they eat their words as the ‘best’ players choke the last month.

    BOOOO PROBOWL!

i wrote about this in one of my blogs… except i compared his stats to that of pennington’s. I guess we can agree on one thing, favre should NOT be in the pro bowl! with that, i still dont think cassel is a great qb. he has too many ups and down and is way off target at times to be considered great. he will probably find some idiot team to give him a max contract (chiefs? raiders? jets????????) and then put up average numbers for the rest of his career. Nothing wrong with that but i’m just saying he isnt tom brady or peyton manning. he is more like tyler thigpen. Actually now that i think of it, thats exactly who cassel is… except cassel has randy moss taking a simple screen pass 73 yards for a td while thigpen has bradley dropping deep bombs…

The Slanch Report has started an online petition asking the MLB Network to air the Dock Ellis no-hitter he threw on June 12, 1970 against the San Diego Padres. The moment was a seminal piece of baseball history and is certainly worthy of being rerun.
