Brazilian Beach Ball-Playing Gets Shut Down

Vodpod videos no longer available.

A new sport has swept the beaches of Brazil called “altinho” which is essentially just a fancy way of saying people are juggling soccer balls on the beaches. However, as the city of Rio starts its preparations for the 2016 Olympics, police are cracking down on the game, declaring ball games on the beach “undesirable activities.”

Among the other things being cracked down on the beach, (thanks in no small part to new consultant Rudy Giuiliani) are the vendors selling shrimp or cheese on skewers, as well as radios and coolers also being banned from the sandy shores.

Of course, Rio citizens are rebelling against these regulations and are continuing to enjoy the beaches as they have for decades. In the meantime altinho games pop up all over the place and remains a favored beach activity for skimpily-clad Brazilians everywhere.

Good thing, the Olympics are a mere 7 years away!

Brazilian Cheerleaders Make the World Better

Brazil exports many goods around the world, and it was about time that the US gets our trade deficit more in order by sending them something of great value back, cheerleaders! Do you know what happens when you take the hottest national population and then add cheerleaders into the mix? Well, here’s the answer.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

In the same way that Arena Football isn’t real football, indoor soccer isn’t REAL soccer; but when you make an awesome move, it’s awesome everywhere. For example, here’s some unknown — to me — Brazilian player helping himself out by serving up a rainbow to himself and then heading it home. Not too shabby.

You’re certainly allowed some preening after making such an incredible shot, but at the same time, I like how he tempers himself, after all, if he were REALLY good he’d be out on a real field…

What Happened to Just Spraying Champagne?

In Brazil the famous Corinthians soccer club won the Paulista Championship; something they evidently take very seriously based on the level of celebrating afterwards. After receiving their gigantic trophy, several of the team’s players — including team captain William — and executives were lifted high in the air, then fireworks and sparklers were shot off. Unfortunately, it turns out that fireworks sometimes include flames and the massive amounts of paper that the team shot in the air that then draped on the raised dais and such became a massive fire hazard.

Of course, inevitably, William catches on FIRE! Luckily, the other people on the platform managed to quickly put the flames out, but this definitely takes the cake for celebrating.

Well, The Cut is Flattering At Least…

In 1996, then Patriots head coach Bill Parcells got into a whole heap of media trouble when he referred to wide receiver Terry Glenn as a “she” during a press conference, inferring that Glenn was weak and that was why he wasn’t on the practice field. The coach of Figueirense in the Brazilian soccer league, Roberto Fernandes, would certainly understand that kind of inspirational tactic. That’s because he has taken to putting his players in dresses when they are not putting out an effort level he’s happy with.

The second-division team has seen a noticeable effect after this new tactic; midfielder Jairo had his best game of the season after being forced to wear a dress during practice. I think this would work wonders with Terrell Owens…

Mr. and Mrs. Much-Better-Looking-Than-All-of-Us Take Brazil

Tom Brady and his wife/girlfriend/hottest-chick-in-the-world “buddy” Gisele Bundchen arrived in her hometown of Horizontina in Brazil to attend her grandfather’s 83rd birthday celebration. Brady is there to also meet much of her extended family for the first time, I bet he makes a nice impression, he’s such a good polite boy, plus there’s the huge paycheck, international renown and of course, the butt-chin…
Don’t worry Patriots fans, while this may be their “honeymoon,” Tom is still finding time to work out at a local gym.

I’m more interested in figuring out how to be reincarnated as this soft-serve ice cream cone that Gisele is enjoying as she and Tom are sitting in a car.

Brazilian Fan Takes a Dive

Looks like soccer players aren’t the only ones who take dives, the fans like to get in on the fun too. One second you’re taking a quick power nap after being in the sun and rabidly yelling during a Brazil soccer game and then, BAM, faceplant. No card was given.
