Can’t Stop What You Can’t See

If you make an awesome shootout goal but your team still loses, does it matter? Ask William Wallen of the Mississauga St. Michael Majors whose squad lost out to the Windsor Spitfires in an Ontario Hockey League game who scored this beauty the other night.

This Game Can Be Awfully Cool

If you are a Tampa Bay Lightning fan, Sunday’s game against the Blackhawks was not one of your favorites. However, if you like hockey, or even if you just like to see some incredible things, the two teams combined on 2 amazing plays in the final minutes of the 2nd period and in the 3rd.

First, Marian Hossa shows off his hand-eye coordination when he grabs a loose puck out of the air and drops it towards his stick. Without waiting for it to hit the ice, he knocks it out of the air into the net, making it 4-0 in favor of Chicago.

Then, as the final seconds of the game are counting down Lightning goaltender Antero Niittymaki makes a truly FANTASTIC save; despite being down 4-0 and the game already lost, Niittymaki doesn’t give up and makes the phenomenal play.

Awesome! Cool!

Perronimo!

Saturday’s Islanders/Blues game ended in a St. Louis 4-1 victory and it was David Perron’s 3rd period goal that put the cherry on top of this sweet victory. From his own blue line Perron weaves his wave through two defenders before continuing his nifty moves to totally fake out the goaltender and fire it in to the net while falling. Well done sir.

Stamkos Scores an Awfully Pretty Goal

The #1 pick in the NHL draft in 2008, Tampa Bay’s Steve Stamkos has a much more important place in the world; I recently picked him up for my fantasy hockey team where he’s been playing like gangbusters. Case in point, this super sweet goal he scored last night. It’s contributions like this that keep me not just in first place, but absolutely CRUSHING the “competition.”

The Best Hockey Goal You’ll See All Week

Back after missing 5 games with a high ankle strain, in overtime Cal Clutterbuck of the Minnesota Wild battled in front of the net, jockeying for position. His team drives towards the net, the first shot clangs off the posts, then the REBOUND shot hits the post and there’s a fortuitous bounce in front of the net. Clutterbuck reached out and with a diving effort manages to score the overtime winning in thrilling fashion. HOCKEY SON!

Oh THAT’S Where they Got the Title of That Movie!

Despite an incident with a fan and his overall tenure with the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS being underwhelming, David Beckham is still a pretty decent soccer player, as evidenced by this sweet penalty shot he took yesterday during a match against FC Barcelona.

Look, it bends!

He’s a Long-Range Assassin

You simply have to love a good long-range soccer shot. Now, my only question is the goalie actually hurt or just laying on the ground in embarrassment at having let in a goal from the half-line?

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

In the same way that Arena Football isn’t real football, indoor soccer isn’t REAL soccer; but when you make an awesome move, it’s awesome everywhere. For example, here’s some unknown — to me — Brazilian player helping himself out by serving up a rainbow to himself and then heading it home. Not too shabby.

You’re certainly allowed some preening after making such an incredible shot, but at the same time, I like how he tempers himself, after all, if he were REALLY good he’d be out on a real field…

That is a Long-Distance Goal

I agree with Punte over at With Leather, goals this far out should count extra. I guess this is what was going on out on the field while the fans were getting all riled up.

Lord Stanley is Calling

Hey remember hockey? Yeah, I’m struggling too, the ouster of the Bruins has made these playoffs hard for me to watch, but then there are goals like this super pretty one by the Penguins that remind me that hockey is pretty awesome.

This Ovechkin Guy is Pretty Good

I don’t know what is going on in the Rangers/Capitals playoff series, the Rangers took a commanding lead early on, but now the Capitals are storming back, thanks in large part to the play of all-world superstar, Alex Ovechkin. I don’t care particularly who wins this series, although if the Rangers do, they then get the chance to be crushed by the Bruins, and I don’t mind that too much…

Anyhoo, here’s Ovechkin doing everything he can to take his team deep into the playoffs. He’s better at hockey than you or I, or pretty much everyone.

I Can’t Do That
