Buster Olney wrote once in his column about how maple bats were becoming a problem, then, every other baseball media person started echoing the statement and now apparently the shattering and splintering of maple bats is a concern. The power of media! Anyways, FanIQ decided to take all the controversy and put up a nice little collection of photos of people about to get slammed by a flying bat. Hilarious! Check out the rest of their photos here.

I love this one, especially the little baby reaching for it, you just know she’s about to get clocked.

i’m all for people not getting hurt, i don’t like getting hurt, nobody wants the players to get hurt, no one wants to get hurt.
that being said, why should i give a FUCK about maple bats? no one asked the fans what they thought when they started with maple bats, nobody would listen to fans now (or ever, about anything) if we wanted them to stop using maple bats. so it’s baseball’s problem.
it’s mostly rich people sitting in the close seats which is the only way a fan would ever be injured. if/when i am lucky enough to be sitting in those close seats? yeah, i’ll be paying attention and ready for the bat.
i love how this kind of shit, like the nba changing the material the ball is made out of, is blown up and has stories made out of it (present company excluded). fans have no bearing, say, or often even opinion about it, let the rich smart business people figure it out. and don’t expect me to cry if a behemoth pitcher gets a little 5 inch splinter in his arm.
