Perronimo!

Saturday’s Islanders/Blues game ended in a St. Louis 4-1 victory and it was David Perron’s 3rd period goal that put the cherry on top of this sweet victory. From his own blue line Perron weaves his wave through two defenders before continuing his nifty moves to totally fake out the goaltender and fire it in to the net while falling. Well done sir.

The Coolest Game on Ice Returns!

Just because it’s only preseason for hockey doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some of the better moments. For instance, here is Dion Phaneuf of the Calgary Flames just flat out DEMOLISHING the Islanders’ Kyle Okposo.

ANOTHER Scam in the Stock Market

08-01-17_money8The hits keep coming for the uber-rich as more and more scams are being uncovered in the financial sectors. First there was Madoff, then Robert Allen Stanford and now, two men who used to own the New York Islanders have been charged with stealing $553 million from charities and pension plans in order to buy luxury items for themselves.

Paul Greenwood, and Stephen Walsh, two of the “Gang of Four” owners of the NY Islanders from 1991 to 1996, have been arrested on charges of securities and wire fraud and were taken to Manhattan Federal Court. The two made outlandish promises of performance to investors the likes of the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University dating back to 1996 and continuing up until last month.

The Gang of Four sold their 100% stake in the Islanders after the team kept losing millions of dollars, later that year reportedly Greenwood and Walsh began their conspiracy to commit fraud.

Don’t worry though, sure the charities and non-profit institutions they robbed are out some money but it wasn’t squandered. Greenwood and Walsh spent $168 million on such necessary items as “rare books bought at auction, horses and a lavish home for Walsh’s ex-wife Janet…They spent as much as $80,000 on mohair Steiff teddy bears, which are German-made.”

Take that unemployed fuckers!

Is anyone else amazed how many people were just flat out scamming folks in the stock market? It’s fucking ridiculous!

Goalie Really Knows How to Earn His Money

The New York Islanders made headlines several years ago when they signed goalie Rick DiPietro to a record 15-year, $67.5 million contract. Three years into the deal, and as most prognosticators said then, the deal looks like a giant mistake. After playing in only 5 games this season, DiPietro is unable to continue trying to play and will face season-ending surgery on his injured knee.

Last season also ended early for DiPietro who required hip surgery, seeing his season come to a close in March. With this, the third year of the contract, thus far, the Islanders haven’t been able to keep DiPietro on the ice and playing, making his ridiculous contract look all the more outrageous. Especially when you consider that, while solid, DiPietro has never been a truly elite goaltender who would deserve such a contract…

A Weighty Hit

Not to become all Canadian or something, and of course, the absolute LAST thing I want to do is make this a hockey blog, BUT, here’s another awesome hit from a game over the weekend. In this clip, New York Islander Doug Weight knocks the snot out of Brandon Sutter of the Hartford Whalers Carolina Hurricanes. Wow.

Another Example of Why No One Cares for Hockey

The Montreal Toronto Maple Leafs, (this sport is stupid excepting the playoff beards and the fighting) besides having a very imposing name, have been one of the most storied franchises in hockey. Right now they are struggling to make the playoffs and lost last night in an important game against the Boston Bruins where the 8th playoff spot was on the line. The Maple Leafs lost 6-2. Recently named Player of the Week goalie Vesa Toskala was taken out of the game with 3 minutes remaining and the Leafs down by 3. To further illustrate how efficient his game has been recently, and why he definitely deserved the Player of the Week award, check out this goal he allowed the other night against the New York Islanders.

That was only from 197  feet away, I can see how he might have found that so difficult. No wonder no one watches anymore.
