Ottawa Fans LOVE Dany Heatley

heatley_dany_sens_looks_on_300x450Dany Heatley, who forced his way off the Atlanta Thrashers after he was convicted of vehicular manslaughter is in the process of trying to get his way off his current team, the Ottawa Senators, in the process angering pretty much everyone in Ottawa. To make matters worse, when the Senators actually ceded to Heatley’s request and traded him to the Edmonton Oilers, he exercised his no-trade clause and turned down the move.

So, the proprietors of the Ballygiblin’s Restaurant and Pub in downtown Ottawa have added a new item to the menu, thanks to a kitchen staffed with all Senators fans, the Dany Heatley Salad. The special salad, which consists of sour grapes, moldy cheese, rotten eggs, and a whiney oiler and vinegar dressing has one other special element, it costs $4 million and as co-owner Roger Weldon adds, “I should mention that we won’t take the four million on credit cards, cheques, or in installments.”

Nice Throw!

Now, the why of this video is a bit beyond me; it’s a parade to celebrate the Pittsburgh Penguins and their Stanley Cup victory but a fan in the crowd is throwing a football. Seems like mixed messages. Regardless, he makes a hell of a throw here and we can always celebrate that.

The NHL Playoffs Are Nearly Over

It’s crazy, it seems like the hockey playoffs just began yesterday. No, I kid, they playoffs in hockey take FOREVER, did you remember that the playoffs began on APRIL 15th!!!! It’ll only be 58 days from start to finish when the puck drops tomorrow for game 7 between the Penguins and Red Wings. 58 days! That seems like a lot. I thought hockey players were tough, they can’t play back to back games or something?

Just to get you in the mood for tomorrow’s final game, here is a delightful flash “game” brought to you by the Detroit Free-Press who have been less than pleased by the way refs call penalties on anyone hitting Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby. Click the picture to get taken to the game. Enjoy!

Lord Stanley is Calling

Hey remember hockey? Yeah, I’m struggling too, the ouster of the Bruins has made these playoffs hard for me to watch, but then there are goals like this super pretty one by the Penguins that remind me that hockey is pretty awesome.

No Puck For You

Darren Helm ultimately scored the winning goal in overtime to help the Detroit Red Wings return to the Stanley Cup finals against their opponent last year, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Before that, he singlehandedly made the Blackhawks look silly by skating around and through their defense holding onto the puck for way too long in their zone, it’s a pretty impressive game of keep away.

Malkin Gets Some New Hats

Evgeni Malkin is liking the playoffs, in 15 games, he has 25 points, with 10 goals already and last night he scored his first career post-season hat trick. Even better, it was against the Carolina Hurricanes who so rudely and unfairly bounced my Bruins. Feel free to throw some elbows Evgeni too, I don’t mind if the Hurricanes have their spirits broken too…

The third goal is simply SICK and in the first goal the distance he drives so freaking quickly is totally boss and stuff. Hockey baby!

Alex Ovechkin Sings Along

At the Capitals/Penguins tilt the other night, the Washington crowd sang along to pederast Gary Glitter’s Rock and Roll Part 2, adding in their usual “You Suck” cheer after every “Hey” in the song. Alex Ovechkin, on the bench during the song joins in; take that Sidney Crosby, AO said you suck!

Can You Be on the DL with an STD?

salo-sami-1Sami Salo has been struggling with an undisclosed injury during the Canucks’ playoff series with the resurgent Chicago Blackhawks, when pressed by the Chicago media about whether the injury was to an ankle, knee or something else he replied thusly:

That’s close. Or maybe it’s just a burning sensation when you pee. You never know.

Salo, derisively nicknamed the “Fragile Finn,” sat out game 3 but was on the ice during yesterday’s skate around moving around “gingerly.” He hopes to return to the ice for game 4 tonight.

This Definitely Hurt a Lot

Mike Brown of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks wanted to make sure that the Red Wings’ Jiri Hudler knew Brown was on the ice, and so he delivers a CRUSHING hit at center ice. Of course, since the puck was nowhere near Hudler, Brown went to the penalty box after this one, but I don’t think that was much solace to Hudler who collapses instantly and starts gushing blood. I love the playoffs!

Now That’s a Save

This is quite possible one of the best saves I’ve EVER seen, in any sport. Simeon Varlamov of the Washington Capitals is out of position and has one of the best players in the NHL bearing down on him with the puck; he doesn’t panic though and reaches out with the edge of his stick and somehow, someway makes the save. Amazing. And this photo below captures the moment perfectly, click it to see a slightly larger version, but this save is simply remarkable.

The Slanch Report has started an online petition asking the MLB Network to air the Dock Ellis no-hitter he threw on June 12, 1970 against the San Diego Padres. The moment was a seminal piece of baseball history and is certainly worthy of being rerun.
