Green Man is EVERYWHERE!

The gang over at It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have themselves a kickass television show and have launched a cultural phenomenon with Charlie’s Green Man character. Green Man has been popping up at sports events all across the country, they even have their own Facebook group; they’re the newest and best trend in stadium fandom in years.

Take for instance, a recent Canucks/Predators game where some Canucks fans took to heckling the Predators players when they entered the penalty box. I don’t think the Preds appreciated the moment.

Like Running Straight Into a Brick Wall

When I see hits like this one that Vancouver’s Willie Mitchell levels on Blackhawk’s captain Jonathan Toews I am glad that my mom never would have let me play hockey. It’s a clean hit but it absolutely demolishes Toews who can’t pick up his stick, tries to skate to bench and can’t get a few feet without collapsing. Wow.

I love open ice hits.

Those Doors are Space-Age

Hockey players are tough guys, they lose teeth on the ice and are always ready for a fight. Or at least back in the day; now the players are on the verge of being coddled. Check out the locker-room for the Vancouver Canucks at their new home, the GM Place. I mean, with such a stalwart sponsor like GM, this is SURE to end happy.

Can You Be on the DL with an STD?

salo-sami-1Sami Salo has been struggling with an undisclosed injury during the Canucks’ playoff series with the resurgent Chicago Blackhawks, when pressed by the Chicago media about whether the injury was to an ankle, knee or something else he replied thusly:

That’s close. Or maybe it’s just a burning sensation when you pee. You never know.

Salo, derisively nicknamed the “Fragile Finn,” sat out game 3 but was on the ice during yesterday’s skate around moving around “gingerly.” He hopes to return to the ice for game 4 tonight.

You’re Supposed to Stop the Goals

Shane O’Brien is a defense man for the Vancouver Canucks and his primary job responsibility is to stop goals from being scored on his team, he didn’t live up to that during a game over the weekend. Clear the puck Shane, don’t pass it into your own empty net.

Stick Save, And a Beauty

Since it has been FAR too long since I had a good hockey clip up here, I have one today to satiate all your inner puck desires. Here is Vancouver Canucks goaltender Miika Kiprusoff getting screened by a Flames player but then reacting quickly and making an incredible stick save. Bravo!

The Slanch Report has started an online petition asking the MLB Network to air the Dock Ellis no-hitter he threw on June 12, 1970 against the San Diego Padres. The moment was a seminal piece of baseball history and is certainly worthy of being rerun.

Please join us in this cause and sign the petition below so we can all share in this special and fantastic moment of baseball history. THANKS!
