It’s Likely Keith Hernandez is Insane

Keith Hernandez was in rare form last night; the early miscues by the Phillies in the first three innings led to some sloppy baseball and he went from jabbering to jabbering completely incoherently. But all that is normal. I’m used to that Keith. I love that Keith. What was abnormal was his outfit. Is it just me or is he dressed like some miserly banker in a Dickens play?

“P.F. Pennypincher here, now give me the orphans’ money or I’ll call the gendarmes.”

    best post yet.

what’s even better is ron darling’s facial expression in this picture. he’s totally not paying attention.

he’s probably going over his Sovereign Bank commercial lines…

I’m glad you noticed that too. I had to squint real hard, and was like, “Purple? Really? Is that really a gold vest?” Also, yes, Keithy did reach a new level of incoherence yesterday, to the point that I can’t even remember a fucking word he said. At least with Hawk Harrelson or Joey “The Fat Stoned Cheshire Cat” Morgan you get some horrifically memorable lines. Keith Hernandez is like my window fan in the winter. Sure it’s cold, but I need an ignorable sound to fall asleep.

He kept talking about really emotional times in the old Mets clubhouse in a total non-sequitor way. Ron Darling had to jump in and say: “I know, i couldn’t believe that either” to shut Keith up so they could keep calling the game. Strange, but also fun to hear the old war-stories. Keith thought he was drunk at an ’86-’88 mets reunion.

In that jacket he just might be the new Captain Kangaroo!

last night they were talking about how he was stretching his quads in the booth and then of course, they put him on camera and he was stretching his quads and then he looked at the camera with this moment of annoyance and was like “guys, come on, that’s not fair. you gotta warn me.”

and gary and ron were cracking up.

bottom line, these guys should have a sitcom in the off season.

The Slanch Report has started an online petition asking the MLB Network to air the Dock Ellis no-hitter he threw on June 12, 1970 against the San Diego Padres. The moment was a seminal piece of baseball history and is certainly worthy of being rerun.

Please join us in this cause and sign the petition below so we can all share in this special and fantastic moment of baseball history. THANKS!
