The Spanish Have Mixed Up Priorities

The people of Europe are obsessed with soccer, with the Euro Cup games going on, productivity in workplaces was significantly down around the continent as people eagerly watched the games unfold. Even more disturbing, people were choosing watching the games over sex!

The International Erotic Film Festival of Barcelona, which confusingly was held in Madrid, annually averages over 50,000 people, ended this year’s three-day festival with a mere 15,000 attendees.

“FICEB director Juli Simon blamed the lower-than-expected turnout on the fact that the festival’s opening day coincided with Spain‘s 3-0 Euro 2008 semi-final win over Russia which drew a record Spanish television audience of 17 million. ‘Football is one of the few things that can compete with sex'” he explained in a television interview.

The festival featured “buxom” porn actresses on hand, screenings from nearly 60 film companies and even the taping of a new movie by director Pepe Catman, which involved some of the festival-goers in on the action.

Let’s hope that once the Euro Cup is over later today that the Spaniards, and the rest of Europe, can get back to the important things in life. After all, I wouldn’t want Pepe Catman to have to go out into the real world and get a job, I mean, I don’t imagine he’s got a lot of transferable skills…

Uh Hideki…? (UPDATED)

Sports Frog has this fun little tidbit on paper fetishist Hideki Matsui that frankly blew my brain.

“In 2003, the Asian edition of Time Magazine did a puff piece on Matsui as he was coming to America, and reported that:

(Matsui’s) only eccentricity, if it can be called that, is his extensive private library of adult videos. His refreshing ability to laugh self-deprecatingly about his porno collection, reporters say, is one reason why fans and even nonfans have taken to him so much.””

ARTNET.com also has a link to a sports illustrated report that says “Matsui has 55,000 distinct items in his porn collection.” (link NSFW)

55,000? That’s a whole lot of tentacles…

Definitely read the Sports Frog article, as it is pretty damn funny.

And for anyone who was confused by J. Temperance’s comment in the original post, this is the bet he was referring to.

“Mmmm, stupid baseball game, now I have to wait three hours to pound one out…”

It Depends on What Your Definition of “They’re” Is

Thanks to the internet, it is a rare occasion these days for me to enter a video store but recently, when I was in upstate NY some friends and I decided to rent some movies. While in the store, we HAD to check out the adult section, if only as a sociological survey to see what was enticing the peoples of upstate New York.

Turns out upstate is all about the anal. But that’s a digression. In the porn section I came across this high-brow title.

Call me old fashioned, but I miss the days when pornos weren’t just rushed out the door immediately after filming. The days when some grizzled old sketchy dude in the valley, wearing a Gold’s Gym tank top and flip-flops over his yellowing toe-nails would at least glance at the cover to a movie before shipping it out to the masses.

Oh the golden years. It seems those days have long past.

Where I am confused by this movie is; if these women are slutty mothers, how are they also husbands? Are they their own husbands? Do they lead bigamous lives with two families, one where they are the husband and one they are the wife? And are they incredibly horny? Or merely presenting an homage to little-discussed Russian author Andrei Bely? Is this a tranny flick? It wasn’t labeled as such and it’d be a shame to mislead the good denizens of the Stone Ridge area.

I was forcibly dragged out of the room and overruled by my narc friends on renting the film.

These questions still haunt me…

The Slanch Report has started an online petition asking the MLB Network to air the Dock Ellis no-hitter he threw on June 12, 1970 against the San Diego Padres. The moment was a seminal piece of baseball history and is certainly worthy of being rerun.

Please join us in this cause and sign the petition below so we can all share in this special and fantastic moment of baseball history. THANKS!
