Kitesurfing Turns Terrifying

This video of a man getting tossed like a rag doll from the winds of Tropical Storm Fay is pretty awful, but also definitely interesting. He is currently in critical condition after having been thrown into a concrete building after being lifted up on his windsurfer and getting caught in the wind, thus being thrown around in the air first. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart but is not especially graphic. However, I don’t think I’ll be wind-surfing during a hurricane anytime soon…

Wow, that’s wild. Note to anyone in this situation: when you land in the soft sand after a crazy air-ride, let go. Your next landing may be a lot rougher.

what an asshole. i’m supposed to feel sorry for the guy who gets smashed to bits because he wanted to kite surf in a fucking hurricane? that’s like feel pity for someone who dies in a volcano trying to roast a marshmallow. he deserves a darwin award.

You obviously don’t have a clue about kiteboarding….it’s an extremely dangerous sport, however the control features on the kite are quite responsive and give you the ‘bail out’ option pretty easily. Not so when 55 mph wind is pulling on your harness and you have .2 secs to react and pull your safety release.

This guy was coming in from a morning session when winds were 25-30 mph (normal range) when the hurrican made landfall and destroyed his day and possibly his life.

He’s in critical condition on life support and all you can say is ‘what an asshole.’ You’re the a*hole, get a fricken’ clue you muli ass kook.

    Empathetic Kiter

no, i stand by my statement. no empath coming from this corner. nature is not man’s bitch, it’s the other way around. just because man can afford a life of leisure and the ability to strap a multi-thousand dollar contraption to himself to walk on water doesn’t mean he has the right to survive the same IN A FUCKING HURRICANE.

and the fact that this has made the national news…

whoever that shatraw guy is is insensitive. sure, this guy’s most likely a toolbag, but he got hurt real bad. no jokes should be made there. on the other hand, you know who doesn’t deserve sympathy? heath ledger. the guy has the world at his fingertips, big movie star, little kid, $$$, and what does he do? goes and does too many drugs/can’t handle his shit, and boom! he dies. sure, death is not fun or anything, but if you do hard drugs, much less with ashley olsen, and get jonesedt, why should i feel bad about it?
