Happy Birthday Gisele

gisele-bundchen-23Today is Gisele Bundchen’s 29th birthday, (we’re so CLOSE to having the same one!) and normally a story about her husband and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is an excuse for me to post a photo of her. Instead, this time a post about her is an excuse to write a small something about the Pats.

This season, look for the Patriots to go 15-1. You heard it here first. For reals, this is no-homerism, just fact. The only thing that could derail the season is an injury to Brady, Moss or Welker, which, god help me, won’t happen.

The Lonesome Kicker

APTOPIX Kansas South Florida FootballUniversity of South Florida’s football kicker was hospitalized after falling 35 feet from the gondola ride at Busch Gardens, fracturing his vertebra. Maikon Bonani, 20, remains in a Tampa hospital recovering after nearly paralyzing himself. Busch Gardens stated that Bonani was trying to close the gondola door which he thought was unlocked when he fell out, hanging on to the outside of the moving gondola for approximately 50 feet before crashing to the ground.

“He’s fine,” said coach Jim Leavitt, who spoke with Bonani by phone Saturday. “The main thing here is that he didn’t die. He isn’t paralyzed. The most important thing is his health.”

It’s a good thing for Bonani that the injuries weren’t more serious, although, if he were Axel Foley he’d have been fine

Pimped Out Ride Gets Ganked

Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis reported to police that last Saturday his car was stolen; it shouldn’t be too hard for the police to spot, it is a 1975 custom painted purple Chevrolet Caprice Classic with his portrait on the trunk. The $136,000 car with multiple upgrades and special features which includes a custom steering wheel with Davis’ name and football number on it. The car is so pimped out it was featured prominently in an article about Davis and his rides in the car pimping magazine, Dubs.

Sitting in his driveway, the car was swiped at some point on Saturday night, I don’t know what the thieves were thinking, yes the car is dope, but you can’t drive that thing ANYWHERE without being super obvious right?

Stealing 70,000 Bills from Buffalo

A former Buffalo Bills employee has been charged with embezzling $70,000 and she subsequently turned herself in to authorities on Monday. Bonnie Krauss, the former Assistant to the Vice President of Marketing and Broadcasting allegedly falsified expense reports over a period of several years, keeping some of the money for herself. Reportedly, the organization is very disappointed because she was a long-term employee that they trusted implicitly.

However, the Bills seem to be totally OK with their players stealing millions of dollars from the team who paid them to to perform at a high level and are simply incapable of doing so — we’re looking at YOU JP Losman…

Seems patently unfair to me. Krauss meanwhile is facing 15 years in prison, although since she doesn’t have any priors, if she repays the money she’s not likely to face a steep sentence.

So Bernie Kosar is Doing Fine

kosar-bernie-cvb-1Some might remember Bernie Kosar for his exploits with his hometown Cleveland Browns, or for being unceremoniously dumped by Bill Belichick when he took over the Browns, or you might be like me and remember his guest appearance on an episode of The Drew Carey Show. Regardless of how you recall Kosar, things have not been going great in his world recently.

Due to some a divorce, unfortunate business decisions and foolish investments, Kosar was forced to file for bankruptcy the other day. The man who once threw 308 passes without an interception and once broke his ankle in the first quarter of a game, only to throw 2 touchdowns in the 4th, now is desperate to keep boys away from his young daughters.

He shattered a Kid Rock-autographed guitar the other day while chasing one teenager out of his house because he doesn’t mind all of the other boys within the area code thinking the Kosar girls have an unhinged dad.

“There are a million doors in this place,” he says. “Too many ways to get in.”

Every movement carries pain and suffering, too many hits over the years have left his body battered and broken and needing multiple surgeries. When asked how much of his money he gave to former teammates over the years with being paid back,

Eight figures,” he says.

Friends and family?

“Eight figures,” he says.

Charities, while putting nearly 100 kids through school on scholarships? “Well over eight figures.”

Now, no longer near the world of football, this once great player has been reduced to the realization that he’s a 45 year old man incapable of doing many mundane tasks. He simply never had to. For most of his life everything was taken care of, by his wife, by maids, by assistants, now, he’s on his own, trying to be a dad and trying to live a “normal” life. I for one wish him luck.

Patriots Rookies Win Trivia Night!

TKT trivia 2of4.jpgAt the NFL’s Rookie Symposium the New England Patriots rookies, for the second year in a row, won the Ultimate Rookie Challenge. The symposium, mandatory for all NFL rookies, is intended to help prepare the rookies for the difficulties in adjusting to the professional game.

Throughout the three-and-a-half day symposium, which started Sunday evening and ended today, rookies were asked a series of questions based on symposium presentations and basic NFL trivia.

The combined individual scores of the Patriots rookies were the best of any NFL team at the symposium, which was held in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

As a reward for having the highest scores, the Patriots rookies each won a free 32″ flat-screen TV.

Mariners Fans Have New Reason to Go to Games

safecotoplessGoing to see a Seattle Mariners game or Seattle Seahawks game is going to be a lot more fun thanks to a judge’s ruling that will allow a new strip club, named “Deja Vu” a few hundred feet from Safeco Field and Qwest Field. The Mariners had taken Roger Forbes, the owner of Deja Vu to court trying to utilize a city ordinance that bans adult enterprises  within 800 feet of any community center, child care center, elementary or secondary school or public parks and open space use.

The Mariners were arguing that their stadium fits that description but Judge John Erlick disagreed and Forbes’ permit was upheld.

“We’re very happy,” said Forbes’ attorney Peter Buck. “It’s a huge go ahead signal, with a strong opinion by a good judge.”

Now plenty of fans can go to the game, stop by the strip club, enjoy the buffet and come home sated. I’m just disappointed that there are all of a couple hundred feet between the stadium and the club, there had better be a shuttle or pedi-cab or something…

Where A Bike is More Important Than a Person

armstrong_lanceJust another follow-up to the Donte Stallworth justice system debacle; Lee Monroe Crider, 40, pleaded no contest and received a 3 year prison sentence for second-degree burglary and grand theft for stealing Lance Armstrong’s custom $10,000 bike. Crider’s co-defendant Dung Hoang Le received a 90 day sentence and three years probation on a misdemeanor charge.

That means that for stealing a BICYCLE, one man will be penalized 3 times as much as Donte Stallworth was for KILLING a PERSON, and the other receives a mere 1065 MORE days in prison than Stallworth will be getting. It must be nice to be able to buy your way out of consequences. I officially give up.

I Want My Own $40 Million TV

cowboysstadium06It was only a matter of time before someone utilized the brand-new $40 million, 180 by 72 foot HD screen at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium for something proper, like a rousing game of Gears of War. Of course, when you think of this kind of fun, you automatically go to those rabble rousers, The Jonas Brothers, or more accurately, Steve Fontane, who directs their videos. Either way, it seems like the perfect use for some downtime and such a gigantic screen. Also, it looks awfully fun.

Place Your Bets on Their Wandering Eyes

kim-kardashian-grinding-reggie-bush_1_1I couldn’t care less about Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush’s relationship, I care little about either person and she’s not close to hot enough for me to put any effort into her. That said, I both find it amusing, and a tragic sign of our culture that you can now bet on whether or not they will cheat on one another.

Online sportsbook Bookmaker.com has odds for several celebrity couples being caught in a cheating scandal, including Kendra Wilkinson and Philadelphia Eagles receiver Hank Baskett, who according to the line are the most likely to cheat. Following them are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and then in the third spot, are Kardashian and Bush.

I’m saddened to see that this is even a possible bet you could place. You know you’ve reached full-on degenerate gambler status if you’re placing online bets on celebrity couples’ sex live.

Wherein the Justice System is Flawed and Bulls*!t

On March 14, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth, while driving drunk, struck and killed a pedestrian. On May 20, Michael Vick was released from prison after serving 21 months in prison for his role in a dog-fighting ring and has another 2 months under house arrest.

With today’s plea agreement, Donte Stallworth will be serving a grand total of 30 DAYS in prison for getting behind the wheel and KILLING a person. In addition Stallworth made an undisclosed agreement with the family of the victim for financial compensation. He will serve 30 DAYS in prison. FOR KILLING A PERSON. Michael Vick, kills and hurts some dogs and serves 21 MONTHS.

Continue after the jump for my full opinion about this ridiculous situation

Nice Throw!

Now, the why of this video is a bit beyond me; it’s a parade to celebrate the Pittsburgh Penguins and their Stanley Cup victory but a fan in the crowd is throwing a football. Seems like mixed messages. Regardless, he makes a hell of a throw here and we can always celebrate that.
