Corey Brewer Just Made a New Poster

Corey Brewer’s young career hasn’t given him much time to fill up a highlight reel, but this sick dunk over the Lakers’ Derek Fisher will be foremost among his greatest hits.

Wow. He slams that home with AUTHORITY! Look how far Fisher goes stumbling and falling afterwards…dope!

Target Center Goes Green Thumb

sep09-aerial-fullThe Target Center opened in 1990 as the new home for the Minnesota Timberwolves, over the summer it had some renovations done, particularly on the roof. Instead of just leaving the roof as is, it has been made into the 5th largest “green” roof in the nation; it is also the first green roof to be installed on a sports arena. The 2.5 acre roof will be able to gather nearly 1 million gallons of storm water, preventing overflowing in the Mississippi River and damage to the surrounding area.

The other interesting aspect of the roof is that it will serve a second purpose, utility garden. On top of the roof will be a variety of Sedums and Minnesota prairie plants, including Columbine, Prairie Coreopsis, Wild Strawberry, Dotted Blazing-Star, and Lupine. The lupines are intended to attract Karner Blue Butterflies which are endangered and depend on the plant for survival. Not a bad way to take advantage of the space, it reminds me very much of Sim City.

McHale Takes the Floor Once More

Minnesota Timberwolves VP of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale has fired head coach Randy Whitman after the ‘wolves started out 4-15 on the season and announced that he will take over as the new coach. Even more surprising, he announced that he was relinquishing his front office position in order to focus on the game-to-game requirements of coaching. McHale, who features a 19-12 career record as an NBA coach (and also two of the greatest cameos on Cheers of all time) isn’t likely to find much success with his current roster, all of which he assembled but he isn’t expected to be too troubled by that since he did bring another championship to the Celtics last season. It is unknown at this time whether after the season if McHale will return to the front office or if the long-suffering Minnesota fans will get their wish and get a capable talent evaluator for their team instead. There has also been no word as to whether he will coach in his famously ugly Cosby-style sweaters or if he’ll switch to the more stylish suit jacket, mock turtleneck style that he features for press conferences.

I’m Much More Interested in Basketball Now

Via Cuzoogle comes a preview of the NBA season with each team represented by various attractive, or unattractive women. For example, the Celtics are represented by Gisele:

Or the Philadelphia 76’ers “Could be one of the ‘it’ teams of the year” represented by Blake Lively:

But my favorite is their preview of the Minnesota Timberwolves, “Heavy drinking this year in Minny,” the semi-NSFW photo below the jump. Continue reading ‘I’m Much More Interested in Basketball Now’

The Slanch Report has started an online petition asking the MLB Network to air the Dock Ellis no-hitter he threw on June 12, 1970 against the San Diego Padres. The moment was a seminal piece of baseball history and is certainly worthy of being rerun.
