Behind the Scenes at MLB Network

This past Monday, loyal reader and regular Slanchreport commenter Youppi got to visit the sets of the brand new MLB network in Secaucus, NJ as part of his job. In fact, when you watch the MLB network and see the big photos of players floating on screens in the background behind the main desk, Youppi picked them out. So, yeah, I got friends in high places.

This LeBron Guy is Pretty Good

During last night’s Cavaliers/Raptors game LeBron James scored 33 points, pushing his NBA total over 12,000 points, making him the youngest and fastest to ever reach that point, beating Kobe Bryant by a YEAR! Wow.

“He’s still going to get better,” Cavs coach Mike Brown said. “That’s the scary thing.”

Yeah it is. They may need to create a whole new record book just for LeBron…

All Hockey ALL the Time

Boom!

Here’s LA’s Denis Gauthier knocking the shit out of Josh Gorges, I’d say he seems a little dazed when he gets back on his feet…

How ‘Bout THEM Apples

When PJ Stock was a Boston Bruin the teams weren’t especially good, but he always had a fist to throw in someone’s face or a hard check into the boards in him to excite the crowd. Now, he’s taken his irascibility to the TV and he remains as feisty as ever. For example, in a good-natured shot at fellow Hockey Night commentator Mike Milbury by posting Milbury’s cell phone number while on the air. Fun times!

Where I Hate on Religion For a Hot Second

Kurt Warner is a man who is very open about his religious fervor and that’s swell; he even chose his uniform number, 13, because of his religious beliefs.

“A lot of people believe 13 is an unlucky number,” Warner said, “but I’ve kind of embraced it.”

“A lot of negative things come with the No. 13. My life is never dictated by superstitions. My faith is first and foremost. If you believe that God’s in control, there is no reason to believe in superstitions.”

Yeah, because religion isn’t superstition…

This Ripken Ain’t Tacky

With the economy in the tank, everyone in America has a bit more (or too much) free time. For example, here is a guy who took 10,115 thumbtacks and made an incredibly realistic portrait of Cal Ripken. The overall project took 30 hours and all those thumbtacks cost $400, I’d say it was well worth it. Enjoy!

The Players Aren’t the Only Ones to Dive

I remember when I was a kid playing catch in the backyard I’d make an ordinary catch and then practice diving afterwards, to see if I could sell it as an extraordinary catch. It never worked.

Here’s a soccer linesman getting bumped and then going flying approximately 3000 yards. But sure, the hit was that hard.

Kiss Me!

kiss-me-in-3d1

Everyone and their mother had a 3d commercial during the Super Bowl, particularly the Sobe lizard, which apparently people were clamoring for, since NBC announced the upcoming commercial like it was actually something that mattered.

Since I still have my 3d glasses I was excited to see this website where I get to kiss a girl in 3d.

It’s a first for me.

Not kissing a girl, that’s like a third or fourth for me…

Check it out yourself, even if you don’t have 3d glasses, you can still enjoy virtually kissing a girl or a guy. Fun!

How Symbolic of Their Season

During half-time the Oklahoma City Thunder invited professional escape artist Kristen Johnson to perform an underwater escape trick. Instead, the onlookers nearly see her drown to death at mid-court. Taking a bit too long to get out of her chains and the tube, Johnson has a hypoxic seizure from lack of oxygen to her brain and her assistants are forced to end the trick early and pull her lifeless body from the water. She was revived quickly and is seemingly fine, but the fans in OKC nearly had a night to write home about.

From the basketball hotbed that is Idaho comes a pretty nice 75 footer to win the game for North Idaho College over South Idaho College. I’m more astonished that both teams fielded all-black lineups, I had no idea there were that many black people in Idaho.
