Cricket Goes to the Mountains

While they are waiting for it to be officially ratified by the Guinness Book of Records, two teams of British cricketers believe they have set the record for the highest-altitude for field sports. At the foot of Mount Everest, nearly 17,000 feet above sea level in Gorakshep, Nepal, the teams played one another with Team Hillary edging Team Tenzing. The teams were named after the two men who first climbed the mountain. The organizers of the game are hoping to raise over $365,000 from sponsors for two charities.

Coach Heads to Jail for Parking in a Pickup

517-wallingembeddedprod_affiliate58If you’re on the volleyball team at Southlake Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas you may view your coach slightly different after coach Wyvonne Walling was arrested for performing a sex act on a local grocery store manager while parked in his pickup truck. Walling, 45, who also serves as the interim girl’s athletic director, head of the physical education department, assistant track coach and as a teacher in a TEEN leadership class was released after posting the $1,000 bail.

The two were spotted by a policeman on patrol near Fairplay Park when he saw the parked vehicle. After approaching the truck, the officer then saw Walling, presumably occupied, and arrested the pair. That doesn’t sound like fair play to me. There isn’t even word whether the grocery store manager finished! That is DEFINITELY not fair play.

What really upsets me about this whole story is that Walling was hooking up with another 45 year old. C’mon lady, don’t you know if you’re a teacher and you’re getting busted for anything sexual it’d BETTER be with a student! You’re doing it wrong!

Unless you’re getting a great deal on meat…I hear the suckling pig is delightful this time of year…

Dube Sparks My Interest in Figure Skating

FIGURE-SKATING/WORLDFigure skating cutie Jessica Dube probably needs to get herself a new pairs partner; during their program at the World Team Trophy event in Tokyo, Dube and her partner Bryce Davison suffered a serious fall and were taken to the hospital. Both were released later in the evening, but this isn’t the first time Dube has had issues with her teammate. In 2007 while doing a routine Davison accidentally cut Dube in her face with his skate, requiring 80 stitches and almost permanently ruining her hotness. Fortunately, she’s a cutie through and through and recovered pretty well. Still, once you slash someone in the face, even accidentally, it’s got to be time to move on. In fact, Jessica, I’d LOVE to do some spins and lifts with you…

Despite their fall, Dube and Davison helped the Canadian team place second overall in the competition which featured each country skating a representative from all four figure skating disciplines: men’s, women’s, pairs and ice dance.

My only concern though is for the safety of Dube, she’s simply too hot to be mishandled.

A Tiny Drop in a Bucket

For the first time ever at a NASCAR event, the official pace car will be a hybrid vehicle. Loaned by Toyota, the Camry hybrid was put through some strenuous tests to ensure it could reach 100 MPH as it must during the race. After circling the track twice, the rest of next month’s Coca-Cola 600 will be run by the normal gas-guzzling monsters. Way to recognize the future…

Long Live Miss USA

It’s 4/20 and so my posting has been lazy today, hence the now three hot girl posts. However, I’d be remiss to not honor the women on the front lines for us, risking it all to become our next Miss USA. Thank you all.

Here is the final 5 during the swimsuit portion of the competition, choose your own winner.

Not to be all spoiler, but Ms. North Carolina wins it all.

I think we are all the real winners though; not only for celebrating these women and their scholarship tournament-whatever-thing, but for getting to listen to that AWESOMELY rocking out song the ladies walk around to.

Wet and Wild College Bikini Girls

The USC Song Girls every year do a charity event benefiting physically challenged athletes, called “Swim with Mike,” the key draw for the benefit being the Song Girls in bikinis. Now, I could care less about college sports, but I couldn’t care MORE about college co-eds in bikinis. Now granted, many of the Song Girls are butter-faces, but in a bikini I’m paying less attention to the face anyways…

He Fought Like a Large Mountain Cat, A Puma Perhaps?

sm_hud0322zJohn Mellencamp ruined sports for much of America with his “This is our country” travesty that was featured in EVERY commercial break of every sporting event for several months. That song was and is the worst.

However, let’s move past that to where the now former-Cougar Mellencamp is a proud papa cat of one Hud Mellencamp who, Thursday night, took home a division title in the Indiana Golden Gloves boxing tournament. The 14 year-old won a 4-1 victory in the 132-pound senior-division.

Thanks to his victory, Mellencamp will represent Indiana in the national Golden Gloves tournament May 4-10 in Salt Lake City.

After his victory Mellencamp was given a trophy and a big hug from his dad; truly he’s just an American kid, growing up in the heartland, doing the best he can.

I Love Japanese Culture

While this story is unfortunate, I love the mindset that led to the situation in the first place.

Noriyuki Komatsu, a former flyweight champion of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation was found dead at the basin of a waterfall in Otsu, Japan on Monday evening. He “is believed to have accidentally fallen in while engaging in ascetic training at the waterfall, [‘police] said. He had been visiting a temple in Kyoto since Saturday for meditation.”

I don’t know what “ascetic training” entails, but it sounds awesome. For some reason I don’t think we’d ever see Floyd Mayweather doing anything similar…

Now THAT’S a Brawl

Vodpod videos no longer available.

When a brawl breaks out at a rugby match is it really that different from a normal game? I guess so, because 8 minutes into a game between Dinamo Bucaresti and Farul Constata of the Romanian Rugby League a full on brawl broke out. 9 players were eventually taken to the hospital, also 9 players (possibly the same ones) were banned from the Romanian Rugby League for their participation in the fight with the league saying it “condemned the players for conduct devoid of fair-play.”

And now, for fun, the fight in slow-motion.

Glory Days Well They’ll Pass You By

Since 1905, Easton High in Pennsylvania and Phillipsburg High in New Jersey have played football against one another. One of the oldest high school rivalries in the country, the two high schools, separated only by the Delaware River, have one score to settle, the 1993 Thanksgiving game that ended in a tie. As part of a documentary sponsored by Gatorade, the 1993 teams are returning to play another game to finally settle the score. Overtime didn’t exist for the schools then, and so both were left with a sour taste in their mouths.

784423Now, 30 players from both teams, all in their 30s now, began meeting about a month ago to start training for the game to be held on April 26th. The weekly practices are also in conjunction with special training sessions from Velocity Sports Performance to help the players get in as close to game shape as possible.

“I wasn’t sure what kind of mind-set the players were going to bring – is it just kind of fun? – but it’s Easton-Phillipsburg no matter your age,” former Phillipsburg coach Bruce Smith said who will return to the sidelines for the game. “The mind-set is, we are in it to win. It’s never just about fun with this game.”

In 1993, Easton came into the game riding high with an 11-1 record, the 4-5 Stateliners from Phillipsburg though put up a fight and kept shutting down the Easton offense. After making two dramatic goal-line stands, the Stateliners blocked a field goal attempt leading to the unsatisfying tie.

“I just remember the empty feeling we left the stadium with,” Steve Shiffert, then, and current head coach of Easton said. “We didn’t know how to act because there was such buildup for the game, and they couldn’t even give out the trophy.”

Now the players are hard at work in an effort to get into shape for the game, a difficult task considering many have been away from the gridiron for nearly 15 years.

784424“It was good to put the pads back on but the soreness afterward was rough,” Darren Smith, a sophomore on the 1993 Easton team said. “You knew it was a different kind of getting back into shape, and you knew you had a lot of work to do. We just don’t recover like we used to. We don’t want to look like a bunch of old guys. We want to come out and look like we can play football. We are 30-year-old men, but we aren’t over the hill yet. We are working hard so we can come out and put a show on.”

Some of the key skill players from both teams are missing, but that hasn’t dampened enthusiasm, “We’re doing some shuffling,” Smith said. “You can’t go into a game like this and expect people to play a position they played 15 years ago.”

Although the score won’t change in the record books, for the players this is their shot at redemption. “Some people say you are crazy, some say it’s great, but it’s a good opportunity,” coach Smith said. “It’s neat renewing relationships with players you had 15 years ago and are 30 now and have families of their own. It makes this game unique.”

Quite the Recovery

When it comes to NASCAR, I don’t have any interest whatsoever, I certainly don’t understand the appeal and would be fine with it disappearing completely. Unfortunately, there’s a whole lot of dumb people in this country, and I should know, I saw a lot of them at Applebee’s last night…

Anyways, I will say that Joe Nemecheck does some pretty impressive driving moves in this clip from the Saturday’s Pepsi 300. It’s one thing to flip over, it’s quite another to flip over going 200 MPH and then recover enough to keep driving like nothing happened and avoid hitting the wall.

I’m Guessing He Said Something Untoward

I never played lacrosse because that’s the same time as the tennis season, and later, the same as my high school musicals, so I never put on the pads and had a go. I’m still tough though, like the other day, I got a paper cut and I only cried for like 10 minutes. So there!

Anyways, this video is pretty hilarious, this kid gets KNOCKED OUT and it’s pretty awesome. Mostly because it isn’t me.
