London Hot Olympian of the Morning: Sweden’s Kosovare Asllani

kosovare-asllaniTo honor the London Games and the athletes participating in them, The Slanch Report will be bringing you THRICE DAILY a Hot Olympian of the Day. Each day we will bring you three (likely unknown-to-you) Olympians who, while maybe not quite worthy of a place on the medal stand, certainly are worth being placed on a pedestal for us to enjoy. Celebrate them all on the Hot Olympians page.

Sweden’s women’s soccer team is known for their high level of skill on the field and for the high level of attractive talent that is on the team. While Josefine Öqvist gets most of the attention, the Swedes also boast a young, burgeoning star in Kosovare Asllani. Only 22 (turning 23 on Sunday!) Asllani was born to Kosavar parents who had emigrated to Sweden several years earlier.

As a soccer prodigy of the young age of 15, Asllani scored 49 goals in 49 matches for a second-division team in her native land. She quickly moved up to the first division and then, in 2009, Asllani signed with the Chicago Red Stars of the WPS, playing there for a year before returning to Sweden. A surprise cut from the 2011 World Cup team, Asllani has subsequently shown that she is a valuable part of the Swedish national team and is sure to be a key cog for years to come.

Plus, let’s be honest, she’s so freaking adorable that it almost hurts.
