London Hot Olympian of the Evening: Great Britain’s Victoria Pendleton

victoria-pendletonTo honor the London Games and the athletes participating in them, The Slanch Report will be bringing you THRICE DAILY a Hot Olympian of the Day. Each day we will bring you three (likely unknown-to-you) Olympians who, while maybe not quite worthy of a place on the medal stand, certainly are worth being placed on a pedestal for us to enjoy. Celebrate them all on the Hot Olympians page.

In Beijing, British sprint cyclist Victoria Pendleton won a surprising gold, instantly catapulting her into hero status in her home country. In the years since she has become something of an it-girl, appearing in lad mags, gossip columns and TV commercials.

Now a three-time Olympian, Pendleton, 31, already has won gold in the individual keirin cycling event in London; unfortunately she was disqualified in the team sprint event for making an early change. However, she does still have a chance to earn a second gold at these games in the individual sprint competition coming up later in the games. Also, for her 30th birthday she got the lyrics from the Smashing Pumpkins song “Today” tattooed on her arm.
