London Hot Olympian of the Afternoon: Australia’s Genevieve LaCaze

genevieve-lacazeTo honor the London Games and the athletes participating in them, The Slanch Report will be bringing you THRICE DAILY a Hot Olympian of the Day. Each day we will bring you three (likely unknown-to-you) Olympians who, while maybe not quite worthy of a place on the medal stand, certainly are worth being placed on a pedestal for us to enjoy.
Celebrate them all on the Hot Olympians page.

Australian steeplechaser Genevieve LaCaze, 22, had a difficult battle just getting into the Olympics. Because of the meet schedule for the University of Florida where she attends college, she was unable to post a qualifying time for the Australian team under their deadlines. However, two days after the deadline she posted the necessary time.

Initially, the Australian Olympic Committee refused to let her onto the team but after a groundswell of public support, particularly on Twitter, they relented and allowed her onto the squad. She is the only member of the 3000M Aussie steeplechase team.

It’s a good thing she did, otherwise she wouldn’t have earned the honor of being named a Hot Olympian!
