Sports, and the athletes that play them, have shown over the years the incredible power that they can have in the lives of the fans. Italian soccer star Alessandro Del Piero has added to that legend after being credited with waking a 12-year-old girl out of a coma solely with his voice.
Giada Scalise had suffered a brain hemorrhage watching a Juventus match in January and with no change in her condition since, the Scalise’s reached out to Del Piero, one of the most accessible and giving of Italy’s soccer stars. He created a special video message for Giada and after the family played it for her, several hours later she surprised them by first moving her hand and then calling for her mother. Within a day she was talking and appealing for ice cream.
The life-changing message was simply: “Hello Giada, I’m Alessandro Del Piero. I hope you can wake up as soon as possible to watch lots of our and my games, to come and see us and, above all, get to know each other.” Apparently it did the trick.
For his next trick the EU should see if his voice has the same reawakening impact on the struggling European markets…
