Yesterday in NYC the annual bike event “Critical Mass” went off with very few hitches. Except for when they rode through Times Square and 22 year old NYPD member Patrick Pogan took umbrage and tackled rider Christopher Long for apparently no reason. To add insult, Pogan then arrested the rider for attempted assault in the third degree, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct; he has been since stripped of both his badge and gun.

That was absolutely terrible form. No self respecting football player would attempt to tackle someone like that, on or off a bike. His hands are all out of position, his upper body is too upright, and his foot position is completely off. If Long had not lifted his body at the last moment, Pogan would have ended up flat on his ass with the bike speeding past him.
Ironic considering Pogan was a college football player :)

here’s how that went (to be read with bad NY accents).

cop 1: man, what’s with all these cyclists? this is so freakin’ queer.
patrick cop: yeah. only homos ride bikes.
cop 1: hey, 20 bucks says you don’t tackle this fag in the black shorts.
    patrick cop: make it 50.
cop 1: alright, alright, 50 you stupid mick fuck.
patrick cop: shit yeah then, i’m doin’ it.

basically, like a scene from rescue me. then dennis leary comes in and punches the cops and they play hockey and punch each other some more.
